Dear fellow doctors, health care professionals, and health professions students:
What's been happening at the border the last 2 years has been eating at us. We want an end to the unsafe detention of migrants, to kids being taken from their parents, from having to sleep in cages, and from their medical, developmental and emotional needs being not only neglected but abused. So we're doing something. We created Doctors for Camp Closure, a group that has rapidly grown to more than 1,700 physicians and medical students, with the purpose of identifying and speaking out against violations of migrants’ rights as human beings.
We are standing together, as physicians and medical experts, to demand an end to the detention of asylum seekers and migrants who have already braved dangerous conditions, arriving at our borders to seek safety and refuge. We believe all who are seeking shelter and asylum in the US deserve adequate medical care, provisions of basic hygiene, and the ability to remain as a family unit. We are taking our demands to address these violations to Washington, DC.
If you've wondered what you can do, this is it. It's one thing that you, a person of privileged freedom, can do for someone else. Please join us. You can start by signing this petition.

We, the undersigned medical doctors, health professionals, and health professions students, call on the United States Congress to take urgent legislative action to bring an immediate end to camp detention of asylum seekers and migrants in the United States. Detention causes documented serious physical and psychological harms, including death, and is a clear violation of human rights. We furthermore call on you to end deportations that separate families or place people at risk of illness and death by depriving them of necessary health care.
